Spring is a very exciting time in schools. It’s the period of time where new understanding begins to bloom and grow. Children who have been in school since the Autumn begin to make further connections and grow in their learning.

Our playful curriculum is about children discovering, exploring and leading their own learning. Alongside this we support them through being fascinated and asking questions or probing and challenging their ideas.  Additionally, there are a few brief carpet sessions led by adults across the day.

The wonder of growth is magical. The process is engaging and exciting. We are on this journey together.

The Science Week focus this year is also on growth. Watch out for some exciting activities here in Nursery on this theme.

Here in Hedgehog class, we are encouraging the attitude that “I can if I keep on trying”.

Please partner with us to respond to “I can’t” with “Have you tried?” or, “You can if you keep on trying.”

We will celebrate every little milestone by featuring it on our dedicated display board with gold lettering, shiny stickers and stars!

Before long, I will be able to:

…put my arms in my coat.

…wipe my own bottom.

…put my trousers on.

…sleep without a dummy.

…use a fork and knife

…If I keep on trying.

 A piece of fabric (pillowcase or towel) can be a cloak, a river, a grassy field or even a turban.

A cardboard box might be a sleigh one minute and a cave the next.  Of course the first thing that springs to our minds is a boat or a car.  Perhaps this is where we get the phrase ‘thinking outside the box’.

We wish you all a fun-filled, imaginative holiday period, full of play and adventures with your little ones.

We have chosen the story Those Shoes to gently introduce the idea of helping those in our community who have less than us through the theme of giving.  The story is available to view on You Tube. 

We will be using this wonderful story to introduce the idea of poverty at a low-key level.

The plan is for us to contribute to a whole-school display about the global goals which will be situated in the glass corridor.

In order to maximise the opportunity to understand this tricky concept, it would be great if you could take your child to a charity shop during the half-term holiday. Perhaps your child could donate a toy or item of clothing?  They might also like the opportunity to experience buying a book or a toy from the shop.

This would help enormously to lay the groundwork for this fun focus week.  We look forward to sharing a news time to talk about these experiences.

We are encouraging the children to share and talk about their favourite stories from home. Parents have recently been asked to send in a photo of their child looking at a favourite book at home. We are displaying these photos in our reading area.  Our display is underway with some photos we have already received and it has been great talking to the children about them. We would love to make our display even better by adding more photos for us to share. If you have not yet sent in a photo of your child with their favourite book its not too late. Photos can either be handed to a member of staff at drop off or pick up or emailed in via the school office. We look forward to seeing them and hearing all about the children's favourite books.
