To start our Christmas season in year one, the children have been making lots of festive things. The children have made Christmas cards, a calendar and a Christmas tree decoration. They had a lot of fun and are looking forward to bringing them home before the end of term.
As part of our learning on animals, the children were visited by some animals. They were able to hold some animals and further learn about the animal groups that the animals belonged to.
This week the children will be learning about Anti-Bullying. As part of the theme 'One Kind Word', the children have been writing messages to their friends and posting them in our post box.
As part of our learning in our topic, Amazing Animals, the children learnt to create rubbings of different patterns in nature for our art. We also looked at different patterns that are on the animals and in their habitats.
The children in Year 1 had their first dance lesson today (Monday 1st November) with our dance teacher, Katie. They were taught different dance moves that they had to remember and practised these with a song.
To end our learning about portraits and self-portraits, we used clay to create a self-portrait. We used different tools to shape our faces, eyes, nose, mouth, ears and hair. We then learnt how to join the parts together.
This week we started learning about poetry in English. The children worked in a group to read different phrases and decide which sense we would use to know what it was.
As part of our learning in geography, the children learnt about human features. We walked around school and identified different human features on a map.

As part of topic 'What makes me a me?', the children learnt the skeleton dance during our science lesson this week. The children enjoyed learning about the different parts of their body and how they are connected. They then made a cotton bud skeleton to show their understanding.
