A Task For Everyone

In Hedgehogs class on Wednesday we made banana muffins.
This all began with snack time chats, when we realised that some children did not know the difference between a cake and a pie. We dealt with this in two ways, firstly by choosing photos of cakes and pies as our talking pictures before the register each morning and then by the real, hands-on experience of making cakes together.
Every child had a role to play from slicing or mashing the bananas to cracking the egg or measuring out the dry ingredients. By the end of the session each child had a tasty muffin to take home.
By the end of the week, many of them knew that a pie has pastry that you roll out like playdough and cake mixture is runny.
We plan to make fruit pies after the half-term holiday. Yum!
